Description:
A letter without any names or dates talking about fossils, drawings, and engravings.
Transcription:
sending the fossils themselves, are, that the former are less liable to receive injury than the latter. Many of the fossils have a thin plate of coal, which, allowing for comprehension, indicates the thickness of the vegetable matter and this plate often presents a different figure on each side though they correspond with its opposite figure in position. It is extremely difficult to guard these specimens from injury in transmitting them abroad and many of them if lost, could not be replaced. As the subject however are very carefully drawn, it is presumed every object you may have in view can be attained from the drawings.
Should you still desire the loan of the drawings you are at liberty to have either a part or the whole of them engraved in which case I would beg leave to suggest the propriety of keeping the several formations destined as I am induced to believe that the Anthracite
